Failed Emission.....Computer Not ready

My 1997 Volvo Turbo failed to pass the emission test.....said the computer was not ready. Mechanic said that I need to drive it more. I have had to replace the battery which caused the problem. I have heard there is a schedule that you drive to make it so the computer will be ready for the test. I have looked around for the information but I can't find it. Does anyone out there know what it is? Also can I montor it with my OBDII CODE READER? Thanks for any information as I need to get it re-inspected before the end of the month. VolvoLarry.

My Volvo dealer has an official Volvo leaflet/brochure that shows what needs to be done to get the ECU ready. Ask your dealer.

Your OBD2 reader should read the monitors that the emmission place looks at.

My reader will blink the monitors that need to be reset and only the monitors that your model car uses.

I am not sure about your year car, but a 2000 S40 resets the monitors with a couple of days of normal start and drive then shutdown cycles. I did see the convoluted procedure that was recommended on this site. Try a search for something like "drive cycle"

The cycle goes something like drive 34 mph then slow down without hitting the brakes then speed up to 55 mph for 12.5 minutes with the windows down and the radio turned to a rock station. THAT'S NOT REALLY THE PROCEDURE !!!

    Just as bad though.

    Miker
