850 - Do a transmission flush? 1997

I'm facing a dilemma here. I've got a '97 850t5 with around 110,000 miles on it, and it's shifting pretty hard. Note this doesn't equate to slipping (higher rpm during shift), it just goes in somewhat hard sometimes. Note, this happens only sometimes, other times it will shift just fine. It really isn't related to heat, it will happen regardless of the temperature of the car.

So, the logical solution is to get the transmission flushed. I'm worried that if I get it done I'm going to be sitting on a useless, burned up transmission waiting for a large repair bill.

What do you all think? The transmission doesn't 'slip' per se, but it does shift rather harsh most of the time. Flush or just wait until it's gone and get it replaced? (Or get a new car)

Thanks in advance.

I'd flush that baby myself and it'll probably shift like new. It's easier than changing the oil, takes about 30 mins, you don't jack the car or even get your hands dirty. You need a case of ATF, some clear 1/2" ID vinyl tubing from Home Depot and an empty milk jug marked in qts. Go to IPD's website and look at the directions with their flush kit which you don't need or the procedure is well documented on the BB forum.

Just finished my 94 855T and it does beautifully. It was dirty, took only a short time and back in business. IMHO, I would change it---don't see how it can hurt when you put clean oil in place of old---------

If never before flushed OR it looks brown or dark or smells at all burnt, change it. Then keep your eye on the fluid for the next year or 2 unless you develop a specific symptom you need to act on.

I changed mine at 60000 and 120000. Each time it looked kind of brown, obviously not fresh but not burnt either. I have got occasional rough shifts time to time since buying the car at 30000, unrelated to changing the fluid. I have experienced this on other cars too (Volvo and others). If the trans is going bad it will tell you, though it might not give you much advance notice.
