OIL LEAK on top of HEAD V70-XC70 1998

Oil on the head. After putting a new clamp on the oil breather hose and changing the seal around the breather cap I still get an oil laying on top of the head in all the waffled areas. Does any one have a similar problem or diagnosis they can share. Vehicle has 130,00 miles and it started at 70,000 mi.

This may be a dumb comment, but many people have reported oil on the tops of their engines due to old gaskets on the oil filler cap. The gaskets dry out over time and allow oil to leak past the filler cap. It pools on the top of the engine.

Many people replace the gasket every oil change, or at each 10,000 mile service.

Good luck.

My apologies, peterjc. I didn't realize that the oil filler cap was also referred to as a "breather". My bad.

I just had the exhaust and intake seals changed on my '98 V70AWD as well as having the top half of the cylinder head removed to replace the knockout opposite the oil filler neck which was leaking oil down the back of the engine on to the exhaust manifold area. No pressure buildup was present, but it was considered initially.

Has the breather hose been changed? It may be cracked in spite of the new clamp. Also, have you changed the oil trap box? If blocked it could cause excessive pressure adding to the problem. Just some ides----

It is not coming from the hose it is coming from a nickle sized cylindrical are of the head. I is located in the center of the head looking at it from the front just to the right of the breather cap. It appears to be filling up from the bottom up and then spilling into the top head area waffling and out under the valve cover.

The breather hose is dry, there is no oil seeping from the breather cap. I never heard of an oil trap box. where is this located??.
