Will an 850 non-turbo AT work in an 850 Turbo car? 850

Hey, I replaced the transmission on a 95 850 Turbo to find out 1/2 mile later I was sold a bad transmission. Since I didn't have another $600-$1000 for another used tranny, the car has sat for 6 months. Well, today I found a 95 850 non-turbo with a good AT for cheap, and I was wondering if I could use it.
Also, I have access to the whole car if anyone needs parts...

Off the top of my head I'd say yes, but the final drive ratio for the non-Turbo is a little higher (2.74 vs. 2.54 for the Turbo), so you'll have that affect. The best thing you can do for these transmissions is change the fluid every 25k miles and install a Magnefine 3/8" inline filter in the return line. There's no internal filter in the AW 50-42 tranny and everything that breaks off circulates in the fluid to contaminate everything else. The total system capacity is 8 quarts, so use a high quality synthetic or synthetic blend Dexron compatible fluid.

I do not know the answer to your question but I can tell you a story that might give you some insight.
Back in '94 when the 850 was still new and the 850 turbo was even newer I got the distinct honor of being the first guy in So. Cal to replace a trans in a non-turbo car. Well I did that trans 3 times before I got it right because the friggin parts department ordered TURBO trannies two times before someone finally figured out what the problem was. When you put a turbo trans in a non-turbo the 1-2 shift is enough to knock the damn fillings out of your teeth and for some reason the customer did not like this.
Now if you were to go the other way like you are thinking I do not know what the results would be but I do know that I would put the correct control unit in with it. Physically though I can tell you they are identical and will bolt right up.

Hope this helps a little,
Mark

Interesting...I am happy to hear that it bolts right up with no problem. So...perhaps if I get the control unit with it, I may be able to use this transmission?
I guess it's worth a try.
I will let everyone know how it turns out.
