Anyone have some experience with setting up a VADIS system?

I'm still trying to get this confounded thing to work.

The main problem is that I'm not sure exactly what I need to do in order to get the thing to talk to the car.

I've got it all hooked up properly. I can get the computer to send updates to the VCT2000 unit, and it ends with the smiley face, making me think the computer and VCT2000 unit are communicating.

So I'll log into the VADIS software, but it won't talk to the car. When ever I try to get any info from any of the various cars I plugged it into, it always says it can not communicate with the vehicle.

I decided to run the self tests in the VADIS software, but then it told me it couldn't communicate with the VST. Now, I don't know what a VST is, and I don't know what it is suppose to do.

Does this thing need a special cable from the PC to the VCT2000? I'm just using a regular old Serial DB9 male to female connector.

If anyone has any ideas, or knows someone I could email, I'd really appreciate it. This has been very frustrating for both me and the mechanic.

Thanks as always.

What kind of Volvo are you attempting to talk to? If it is a '99 or later is sounds like what you have should work. If it is older than that you will need to go through the VST (Volov Service Tool) to communicate with it. On pre '99 cars it is really just a pretty bitchen parts fische and a so-so repair manual.

Ah, that would explain why it failed the VST test, since I don't have a VST.

      I believe the car was a 2000 or a 2001.

Does the computer need to be connected to the internet or something?

When ever I try to do anything like, pull the Vin number off the car I have it plugged into, the VCT2000 green light will flicker for a moment, and then the computer comes up with a message that says "Can't communicate with the vehicle."

It's all rather confusing... heh heh heh.

I believe you already covered this in you first post but I have to ask, did you do the VCT2000 update? When I first got my copy I was getting the same B.S. you are and a kind individual from, I believe, this board hooked me up with the update. At the end of the install I got the smiley face that you refered to and all was good. Go into test VCT or communicaton test was it? Prior to the update it was no good after the update all was good on the VCT test. To do the update all you need is a car with an OBD II connector and you are good. Obviously though you will need a 99 or later to see if it really works. No, being hooked up to the internet is not necessary and I have been told by some guys that it is best that you are not so you won't have any corruption issues. Let me know if you need this download and if you do I will e-mail it to you when I get into work this morning.

              It didn't work I'm afraid.

I sent you an email with all the fine details.

It seems that the computer is talking to the VCT2000 fine. The VCT2000 just doesn't seem to want to talk to the car (or vise-versa).

If anyone else has any ideas I'd love to hear them.
