strange noise coming from driver side 850 1995

i am getting a strange noise (sounds like chi, chi, chi) when I am driving coming from the (seems like) drivers side. when i gently tap the brake it goes away, could that be the sensor for the brake pads? my brakes do seem low when pushed...

thanks

If the noise increases with the car speed it's probably your brakes. Could be a loose or worn pad.

You might want to consider the possibility of a worn wheel bearing too. If the noise seems to change pitch when you steer one way or the other it is probably the bearing, if not it is more than likely brake related. There are no brake wear sensors in that thing like on a Chevy truck. Easiest way to determine if it is the wheel bearing is to go out and drive it at 35-40 mph and then swerve back and forth in your lane like you just got out of happy hour somewhere. The noise should sound kind of like it comes and goes as you turn into the bearing and then out of the bearing. What you are doing is loading and unloading the bearing and it will obviously make more noise when loaded.
