roof rack cross bar tool V70-XC70 1998

I would like to adjust the cross bars on my 1998 cross country wagon. It looks like this can be done by loosening a bolt with a wacky looking head on it. Kinda looks like torx but different. Anybody know where to get this tool or some other way to loosen this so i can adjust the crossbars? Thanks! BillE

Its a torx with a small "tamper proof nipple in the center that acts as a security feature. I'll post the exact size tomorrow, to lazy to walk out to the car. Most auto parts stores will carry something like it just test it to see if its long enough. Probably cheaper then the Volvo tool.

Thanks for the reply Geo! What should I ask for at the auto parts store? Maybe a recessed torx? I know i would need to know the size. Thanks! BillE

Ask for a tamper proof torx driver. The size is a T30. When you look at the end of it you'll see a small circle in the center of it. Just be sure its long enough, I use a socket and a ratchet and its a pain in the neck. Go for the screw driver type and you should be ok.

You can hook with the wrench at your dealer. Just ask the parts person to look up under roof rack “tools”. Runs about fifteen dollars.

I had the tool in my toolkit when I bought my XC. Is it possible it's already in your tool pouch? It's a simple Torx head that slips in and out of the black plastic factory screwdriver handle.
