S70 Roof Rack S70 1988

I was hoping to be able to get a hitch on my S70 to take a 2"x2" receiver bike rack I have but was told it was only possible to get a 1.25 x 1.25 hitch. If I put the bike on the roof, is there a rack that fits well on the S70. I have all the Thule bike holders and would like a rack that does not clamp on under the doors. There is some plastic strip on both sides of the roof - is that protecting some kind of mounting hardware? Ideally, it would be nice to have a rack that is supportive without huge door mounting pads. Appreciate any advice. Thanks. Greg

    S70 Roof Rack S70 1988

I found a roof rack on Ebay that works great. It is made for a Volvo and clamps right on with the holes in the door jam (top) I just installed a hitch that accepts a bike rack although it is not the 2".

I have the Thule load bars that fit on my 850. I'm assuming that they are the same that you would need for your S70. They are made for the Volvo and they clip on to the car nicely. If you open your front or rear doors you will see a small hole near the roof in the door jam. This is where they go. I'm not sure if this is the type that you mentioned that you want to avoid but I'm don't think you have any other options. Just to clarify this is not some generic load bar - it is designed and fits perfectly on my car. I use it with our bike racks all the time. Good luck.
