S70 cold-start problem S70 1999

Whenever I try to start my S70 in the morning, or after several hours since last being driven, it is difficult to start. I will turn the ignition and there will be a slight pause before the engine acts like it is about to stall, then there is a sudden jolt and a surge in the RPMs to 2500-3000 before leveling out. Sometimes the car dosen't start at all, and I have to keep trying 1 or 2 times before it acts like that. I took it to the dealership, but the diagnostic check, cables, charging system, battery, and starter all check out and they couldn't do anything. A friend suggested that it might have something to do with my fuel relay or pump or something like that. Any ideas?

On the other hand...it could be a bad coolant temp sensor and or air temp sensor. I had a start issue and it was resolved by having both temp sensors replaced. And neither was throwing a code that something was wrong.

I had the same problem while it was under warranty. 5 visits to the dealership they couldn't fix it. Even made me pay for a $500 tune up when it was unnecessary.

I continued to just live with the problem because I love the car.

1 year out of warranty the ETS goes out. I replace to the tune of $800. Low and behold the starting problem also was fixed.
