Thermostat temp/ 87 or 90? 850

I have forgotten which temperature thermostat I bought the last time I changed
out my thermostat, 87 degrees or 90. I think the geographic area one lives in makes the difference. yes?

87 for turbo and 90 for non-turbo

What is more important than the temprature is the failsafe feature. I found what AutoZone lists as the proper thermo for my car disn't even fit into the hole, but the O'Reilly part does. Again, very important that it's a failsafe.

No. Maine to Fla, Volvo is going with the 90 thermostat. The older Volvos, pre 93 liked to use the 87 degree, but it doesn't make any difference in engine reliability.

Hey Klaus,

Is that a new recommendation? Just wondering as my OM says use the 90C on N/A engines and the 87C on turbos.

My dealer says that the 3degrees Centegrade don't make much difference. Except that on my 164, it runs hotter on the dash gauge. The important thing is that it works.

My 96 Turbo had an 87 from the factory. Doubt that 3 degrees C makes much difference though...
