99 or 99 XC or fix my 90 745ti

I want to get a new car I have a 90 745ti that needs alot of work including the turbo and tranny. I wanted to know from reading the posts if I should get the 98 or 99xc they both have 50k on them and the dealer want 8000 for either. Is it better to fix old school or move up in life. Please help me everyone.

Thanks In Advance,
Randy G

The reason the 98,99 awd are so cheap, is because the awd is no good and will fail. The cost to fix is more than the cost to replace with new for your turbo and tranny.

If the 740 isn't as bad a you're indicating AND you can do the work yourself, defintely fix that rather than buy a newer, far costlier to own Volvo. My 745T is now 20, 260K miles and I'm planning to keep it yet another 10 yrs. They really don't make cars like that anymore.
Stay far away from any AWD Volvo unless you like parting with lots of money.

My local Honda dealer had two XCs, a '98/'99 and a '01+, both parked next to each other, and both in silver on their used car lot.

If you search out used cars on the internet, there are lots of Honda dealers that have two XCs on their used car lot.

I'd conclude that lots of people seem to trade in XCs on Hondas and sometimes they do it two-at-a-time.

1. Yes, I'd move up from a 745. Technology moves a lot in 15 years.
2. No, not to an XC. No.
3. If it must be a Volvo, try looking for a FWD '98 V70. Get it checked out for oil leaks and make sure the AC evaporator isn't leaking . ($$$). The later cars were "drive by wire" and the electronic throttle almost always fails.

What ever you get, get a '98....avoid '99 and '00. These have the electronic throttle body (ETM) issue...will always break, sometimes not once, but 2 or 3 times...$1000 repair. '98's don't have this issue. Just do a search here and you'll see.
