93 850 problems! 850

Alrighty, car has been turning over and not starting. I replaced the cam positioning sensor, I have spark and I smell fuel in the engine compartment. The motor cranks and cranks, acts like it wants to start, you know like it is on the very verge of kicking in. Fuel pump is working. when i pulled the injectors, they spewed all over so i am getting fuel. the head was replaced and i am beginning to think that something was done wrong. timing is supposed to be correct according to some audi guy. What would you all suggest? checking tdc of cylinder 1? Thank you all for any help in getting this bad boy running again! Ask any questions you all need, I will check whatever you all say, i just really need to get this thing running. Also the spark at each plug seems far apart, like number five sparks and then it takes a while to spark again. Brand new battery also. Thanks brickboard!

Had the similar problem a couple weeks ago, although I didn't have head replaced. Just a no start and A2 codes showed cam position sensor. You can check back through my posts or here is the short version of what worked for me -

Make sure plugs are not fouled and getting spark - distributor coil wire arc to ground shows spark. plugs you may want to remove and use propane torch to insure not fouled. I was getting close to due so I replaced.

Make sure battery fully charged.

Grind, without stopping until it starts. On mine took about a minute before I heard the first signs of life and the cranking started picking up speed and another 31 secs before it started. Total starter time 1 min 31 sec.

Got this from my indy shop who told me if you are getting spark cam sensor OK. He has had a couple 850s that were getting spark, fuel & compression and this is what he found.

Hope this work for you and not related to head replacement,

Good Luck

Ken

Just a quick question, is the timing belt there / attached etc? When mine blew it seemed like everything was ok till I had 0 compression when my mechanic checked. Look around those routes.

yes the timing belt is there and it is supposed to be timed correctly, I suppose I need to check this for myself though
