98XC A/C Expansion Valve Replacement V70-XC70 1998

My 1998 V70 XC (100,000 miles) has a high-pitched squealing/whistling sound when the A/C runs. It is holding a R134a charge. I suspect the expansion valve. The sound persists for about 15 seconds after shutting off the engine.

The primary question: how hard is it to replace an A/C expansion valve? Does it require the removal of the entire dashboard (like an evaporator replacement), or can it be done from the other side (the engine compartment)?

Does anyone have any experience with an expansion valve replacement?

My car is in the shop right now, and I am looking for a quick response (aren't we all!).

Thanks in advance.

    orifice tube V70-XC70 1998

    its called orifice tube.

From my readings, the tube is by the pressostat(low pressure switch), and can be replaced without discharging the system, you just unscrew it . I am not positive on this, since I have not done it myself, perhapd someone who has actually done it will chime in.

    98XC A/C Expansion Valve Replacement V70-XC70 1998

As you must know by now, your car has no expansion valve in the first place.

Whether we call it an expansion valve or an orifice, it performs the same function in the air conditioning system.

So... do you know about replacing an A/C orifice?
