Here's what I did:

Sit in the car with the door shut. Put the key in the ignition. Cycle the ignition to position II, then off, then back to II, then off. Do this cycle a total of five (5) times, then, with the key still in the II position, push the "lock" button on the key fob. You may have to hold the lock button for a second or 2.

Thanks
AJ

If you have more than one remote, you'll have to do this with all of them (3 at the most) right after each other (after the 5 times to position II and back) as this process "marries" the remote to the car and in the process deletes all previously programmed FOB's.

I believe within 5 seconds of each other...one right after the other without touching the key in the II position. Oh, and make sure all of your doors, trunk lid, etc. are all closed when you do this. The light on your dash should flash when you do the ignition key turn the 5th time. After all complete, turn the car off...take the key out of the ignition, get out of the car, shut door and then try your remotes.

Will these instructions also work for a '98 S70 remote as well?

No, I have a '98 S70 and I had to get the dealer to program mine. I lied to them and told them I had 2 and the one used regularly died due to dead battery, but I replaced the battery. With that, they only charged me $25 to do the programming. The truth was that I bought the "other" remote from eBay. I figured that if I had told them that, I would have been charged up the ying yang. Btw, you'll need to give them all of your remotes when they program the one as they all have to be "reprogrammed" at the same time for it to take. Good luck

Thank you MIJ,
I have been looking for this information. My remote still work except for the loop for the key ring is broken. Two of my remotes have the same problem because there is not enough plastic that eventually they break. Again, thanks!

Hey Elbert,
What perplexed me about these remotes (FOB's) is that they are the same remotes for the 850 and S70, but programming instructions are different for the cars. Evidently, the FOB's aren't programmed, but the car is programmed to match the FOB's. Hope this info helps....that's another reason you need to take all your FOB's in when you get this done. When the car's programming is changed, the previously "married" FOB no longer will work, so they have to program the car to match all of them.

Good luck
