blue smoke 850 1996

I just purchased my 850 wagon, love the car. I have come to notice after sitting idling for a short time I get a big cloud of blue smoke from the tail pipe when I take off. Is there a pcv valve that could be plugged or is it valve seals gone bad, or worse valve guides. Car has 170k miles but runs smooth and quite.

It is always a good idea to clean the PCV/flame trap to keep the manifold pressure down so seals don't break. As far as the blue cloud, have you check the oil consumption yet? Take it to a reputable shop and do a compression and leak down test. They should be able to determine if the valve guides are worn.

Thanks, I will have to get a book on volvos so I know where some of these things are. I have a compression gauge so will try the leak down test myself. The car seems to use some oil but had not been smoking at all until recently. Thanks again.
