Shelf life of a used fuel pump? 850

Friend's 96 850 wagon quit dead in downtown Spokane because of the fuel pump. A new one costs in the neighborhood of $270 from Volvo Houston (800-468-0041), the cheapest source I've found to date for Volvo parts, including Borton, who are not cheap. Does anyone know how long a used fuel pump will keep on the shelf before whatever inside deteriorates? It would be nice to have a spare just in case. Dick

    Can't give you a definitive answer, but the fuel pump that I bought "new" at the beginning of this year at Borton Volvo in Minnesapolis was manufactured in 2001.
