SAS - Air Pump 850

How can I determine whether or not my air pump is operating correctly on my 97 T5? I do not have any CEL lights on, nor are any codes stored.

I can hear the air pump on my 97 GLT.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Jump 30 and 87 terminals 850

on the Air Pump relay socket.
Open the main fusebox, locate the AP RELAY (next to the Main SYSTEM RELAY).

86-86 is the primary circuit.
30-87 is the secondary circuit.

Jump 30 and 87, you should hear the pump running.

And you can't hear it on your T5? If you have one it should be a simple electric pump just like the other one and you should be able to hear it light off for the first 100 seconds when it is cold. Otherwise you will need to jumper it and see that it does work. Darn things sound like a vacuum cleaner when they go off. The diagnostics on that system is pretty tight, I would think that if it was dead you would be posting a code for it.

Yeah...I can really hear it on the GLT.....nothing on the T5.

Will a bad air pump cause the terrible gas mileage I am experiencing?

I noted in a previous post that I use OBD-2 software. The GLT reads both O2 sensors, however, it only reads Bank 1 on the T5.

It is perplexing as I don't have ANY codes, nor CEL.
