'Home Made' Serpentine Belt Removal Tool 850

I have my tensioner out right now, so the pics are slightly cheated.

I have seen this and that on home made tools, but the simplest for me was to use a 11mm crowsfoot and a 3/8" socket extension. Fit and worked perfect. Your crowsfeet might differ in width, but 11mm worked for me

Are these an item you can buy in a store? I've never seen one...

Haynes manual shows just using a spanner!

LOL - Ya know, about 15 to 20 years ago, I purchased a Craftsman Tool "Kit" as it was pre-packaged. A set of these "crowsfeet" wrench ends came with it, and I never really quite figured out what their intended purpose was, or how to use them, so they have been sitting in a tray for years.

The other day I was in Autozone picking up something when I saw a set there and I think they were labeled as "crowsfeet" - which is what caught my attention as I did not know what their name was previously.

So, getting into this job, with that fresh in mind, it all just clicked.

You can pick a set of these up really cheap - and again, you don't need some lifetime strength forged tool, because the pressure will be very slight.
As another poster noted, once you have the tensioner pulled back, there is a small hole that a tiny philips head screwdriver will go into and act as a pin to keep the tensioner open while you route the belt.

      Cheers

What a wonderful simple tool! I never found the three-penny solution to work worth a darn. But yours looks like it really works. Will run out and buy one forthwith. Again, my thanks! Dick
