'95 850 gas tank leak 850

I have a '95 850 GLE sedan and the gas tank is leaking. It appears to be the seam 1/2 way up the tank at the left rear. Any ideas on a repair product for this tank? Really surprised it is leaking since it is a heavy plastic material, and does not appear to be damaged.

Thanks,

Joe in AZ

My 1994 850 had a gas tank leak and I had to replace the tank. Months later volvo issued a "recall" or service paper on the problem. The dealer checked my papers and the work and arrange a reimbursement for me. They will fix this problem if you take it to a dealer. It's very dangerous... a volvo knows it.
Recall was out for 94-97 850 in southern states and involves a crack in the tank where the heat shield is attached.

Could be your lucky day. Volvo currently has a service campaign going on just this problem. I believe it affects 94-95 850's. Apparenlty a very small number of them have developed fuel leaks right where you are talking. I suggest you contact your local Volvo dealer and see if you are covered.

I got a letter Fri. covering 94-97 850's saying that they may develop fuel tank leaks after exposure to extreme heat "at the heat shield attachment points". If the dealer finds evidence of a leak, they'll replace the tank. Otherwise, they'll install bushing to the heat shield.
