Rattling rear tailgate on my 96 850R 850

Ive only recently purchase a 96 red 850R estate. Love the car, though it needs a few things sorted with which im hoping you can help.
No.1 Rattling rear tail gate. Very annoying. Is there anyway I can stop it.
No.2 The car under slow acceleration hunts up and down in the revs. Very noticable on the tacho....this happens with the accelerator panel is kept at a constant level. What is the likely cause of this. Sensors? which one!
No.3 Child seat/arm rest is jammed. How can I get at it to free it.
Look forward to your responces.

Rattling rear tailgate on my 96 850R 850 1995

My 95 855 was doing the similar thing when it was only 40k miles. Tranny was hunting the right gear to go in and tach was up and down. When tranny was hunting gear, I could feel and hear the "clunk" noise coming from the engine bay and accelerator pedal. It felt like tranny was banging into gear.

It only happened at constant accelerator pedal and uphill in my case. Dealer could not duplicate the problem initially. Then after I test drove the car with the Master tech, he could then duplicate the problem. But still no luck in finding the root cause. Then someone in this board mentioned that the throttle position sensor maybe bad and causing bad signal to the tranny CPU. I advised dealer to replace the TPS and that fixed the problem. Since your car is pre-owned, it is good idea to flush the tranny fluid too to play safe.

Hope this help.

Thank you for all your responses...

However, the trany isnt hunting .....just the engine revs go up and down perhaps 100 0r 200 rpm.....the transmission stays in the one gear and I dont suspect anything is wrong at all with it.

Im only talking about the engine hunting in revs up hills only, once transmission is in top gear there is no hunting.

Any ideas???

I bought a repair kit off of ebay for the rattling tailgate on my 95 Turbo Wagon. Came with new clips and some screws to add (with gray caps to cover them after installed) for added security. I believe these kits are available elsewhere (volvospeed.com or ipd.com)

As for the child seat, what do you mean by jammed? In the up or down position? What I found out after 1st using the seat was that if it is down with the top portion up (in child seat mode), you have to drop the back all the way down on top of the lower portion and snap it together before you can raise it back up. This is some sort of safety feature I guess for the child seat mode.

Not sure about the hunting condition of the trans. I would flush the tranny fluid first and see if that helps (see other posts about flushing the tranny fluid).

Good Luck.

Keith

The tail gate has a plastic panel held in place by plastic clips.
The clips and the panel breaks. To repair it the clips need to be replaced and almost everytime the panel breaks at the point where the clips attach.

There is a repair kit to correct this problem. I have a few of them and I'm in the process of writing the installation instructions for my website.
