850R Heating up

I have an 96/850R I had the ECU upgraded the car was always runing just a hair hoter than normal..meaning the gauge needle was slightly higher that smack down the middle....acouple of days ago the car started to over heat getting all the way to the red line.... I quickly toed it home and chaged out the thermostat changed out the coolant and checked for leaks...nothing.... the car is runing just as it was before slightly above avrage...is this ok...or is there something else I forgot to check..the gauge isn't exactly down the middle...I guess I'm asking too much but I guess it's ok...

Check that you don't have any oil in the water and double check all the water hoses, if necessary drain out all the water, remove the hoses and inspect them properly, it shouldn't take you more than an hour. Better safe than sorry. I've blown my head coz of cracked hoses.

    Happy motoring!

    Regards Stretch.

Usually, when the thermostat goes, it stays open all of the time and you wind up running colder than normal. Your temp sensor may have gone and the cooling fan is not kicking in. The new chip may/may not have any bearing on this. The dash temp gauge is only there for your amusement, it is not guarenteed accurate, but when it goes into the red, something is not right.
Next time it gets hot, pull over and make sure the fan is running. If it is it could be the pump (doubt that).
