ANyone tried the IPD oil filter magnet?

It sticks on the outside of the oil filter and helps capture metal particles. I wonder why oild filters don't incorperate magnets into their design? Is there a danger of magnetizing but not capturing metal filings and having stick in the engine?

    Snake oil, save your money

As mentioned below, anything wearing in your engine not already caught by the filter (unlikely assumption to begin with) isn't magnetic. IF you are getting metal sticking to a magnet, there's a big problem.
I've seen a few engines where people use those magnetic drainplugs but there's never any metal filings (or anything) sticking to them.

Just change your oil and filter frequently (unlike most) and your engine will easily last as long as your car, or as long as you KEEP that car anyway. Few are like me who keep the same car for 15+ yrs (and it was 10+ when I first got it).

    Tina,
You change your oil so much, your engine should be very happy without magnets. I always assumed that metal filings too small to be captured by a filter would be harmless anyway. There is a magnetic drain plug which is supposed to catch heavy bits, pistons and valves. I wouldn't waste my money. Just tape a magnet on the outside of your filter and when you change the oil, take the magnet off and see if the filter rolls to a heavy side. :)

Hahah true I would hardly expect the filter to be weighed down to one side. Then again most of the particles abrading the engine are probably extremely small but still effective at causing wear.

I wasn't planning to order it, but I was curious about it!

I'd be unlikely for an engine with frequent oil changes to have metal filing contamination to amount to anything and most internal engine bearing are bronze or non ferrous alloys anyway I think. I picked up a "donut" magnet from Lowes or Home Depot (they're a little larger than a silver dollar) and stick it on the bottom of the filter when I change it. It'll cost you less than half IPD's when you figure shipping. I guess you could go all out and epoxy another one on the pan or get a magnetic plug like Klaus mentioned.
