I need some help setting up a VADIS system.

I'm currently trying to set up a VADIS system for a Volvo shop I do some part time work at. I'm the computer tech. Up till now, I haven't faced a problem I couldn't tackle. Then, this got thrown at me!

I have the VCT2000 hooked up and everything seems like it's all good and proper... but when I try to run the VCTUpdate, I keep getting a "Error 109 Error when reading packages" screen pop up.

I have no idea what Packages are, or what they are for.

If someone could give me some basic info, and perhaps some basic trouble shooting tips, I'd really appreciate it.

My internet access has been somewhat limited recently for reasons I won't get into here, but I'll check back ASAP with any responses I get.

Thanks as always.

What operating system are you running and where did you get your disc, boot legged I presume?

The disc that I received loaded fine on two different systems (XP PR0) but would not allow vehicle communication because it needed the VCT 2000 update. As the other guy mentioned it needs to be hooked up to a car to run the update. As it turns out you do not need to be hooked up to a Vadis vehicle for it to run it's update. It simply needs the power and ground that is provided through the OBD II connector. When I attempted to run my Vadis I received a message that said that not all of Vadis had loaded and that I needed to attempt to reload it. The individual that I got the disc from surmised that in may be a bad disc because they had seen that in the past. Before I loaded the update I could access the "information manager" part of it but not the vehicle communications part. Can you get it to function on any level? I have a friend at another shop that was in the same boat and he swears that he had to hook up an alternate power source to the back of his VCT 2000 to make it work!! Something sounds fishy to me on that one but he swears that was the deal. At any rate, make sure that the light on your VCT lights up as well, it should be a green light I believe. If you need that update let me know, I will check this post tomorrow when I am at the shop and if so I will e-mail it to you. You should be able to go through to Start, Programs, Vadis, and from there you should be able to see if the VCT 2000 Update is there. Let me know.

I need some help setting up a VADIS system.

The disk I've been provided with came from someone called "VADIS_Guy". I'd assume it's bootlegged.

I have done every test with the sucker powered up, plugged into a car. Green light is on.

There does seem to be a spot where another power supply can be plugged into the back of the black box, but I'm hesitant to just throw voltage at something I'm not 100% sure of, certainly since this is rather expensive equipment!

If you have any kinds of updates or any other info on this confounded thing, I'd appreciate an email. I'll do my best to get check it as soon as I can, but like I said above, I've been with out internet access for quite some time.

I'm beginning to think that the computer's "serial port" may be the issue. The mechanic wants to use his laptop with the thing, but his laptop doesn't have a DB9 serial port. It does have USB though. I went out and bought him a DB9 serial USB adapter, and it's loaded up just fine and works (tested with another serial device), but it just makes me wonder...

I have it set to use COM1, and the baudrate is 19200 for the serial port. Computer is running Windows XP Home. It's got plenty of speed and memory.

Thanks for the help guys.

I need some help setting up a VADIS system.

Don't know how much help this is but I do know that the VCT 2000 must be conected to a car to run the VCT update.
