Engine Upgrade 850 1995

Hey Everyone!

I need some help here... I own a 95 855 Turbo. I LOVE it... I just got a great deal on a 2.4 litre engine (out of a 97 turbo) and jumped on it... does anyone have any advice for me before I start ripping my old engine out and tossing the new one in? The fellow I bought it from said thier MIGHT be some wiring changes but I believe that to be an understatement... if anyone has ANY advice I would appriciate it!

Thanks,

Chris

Engine Upgrade 850 1995

Alright... so I'll should just sell the 97 I bought and get mine rebuilt... Does anyone have any suggestions? The problem is that a rod is knocking. I just had Majestic (out of Dallas) rebuild (and port and polish) my turbo, I had some head work done and then the rod starts knocking... Does anyone know a GREAT place to take my block to get rebuilt? I appriciate all your help!!

Engine Upgrade 850 1995

Hello,

Any monkey with a wrench set and a tech manual can rebuild an engine. Bring it to a machine shop that you trust.

If you are still searching for more power after that, then IPD claims close to 300 HP and over 300 LB/FT of torque with their various computer and exhaust upgrades.

I also hate to pop your ballon, but the 2.4lt has less hp than your 2.3. Wiring updates??? Start at the computer and work your way to the firewall and dash board. BTW, there is no turbo boost guage on the 2.4

I might be wrong here but the 2.4 out of the 97 sounds like a glt model.(light pressure turbo)
You might be downgrading your engine.

850 Engine and Turbo Specs by Year Made 850

RIGHT...on '94-'96 850's When it had the "Turbo" badger on the back of the car, we were talking about high pressure turbo's (2.3L). That's how my '94 Turbo Wagon was. When we bought our '04 V70 (2.5T) I noticed a slower turbo in comparison. They didn't come out with the GLT (light pressure turbo) until the last half of 1995, then it was available until the last 850's in '97.

So, long story short, you'll be downgrading your engine to go from the 2.3 you have in your '95 to a 2.4 in the '97. At least this is my understanding.

Check this out:

Engine Information:
There are four different engine variants used in the 850 series:

Variant 3: 2.3L inline 5 turbo, 222 SAE net hp, 221 SAE net ft./lbs. – 4-speed automatic
Variant 4: 2.3L inline 5 turbo, 240 SAE net hp, 221 SAE net ft./lbs. – 4-speed automatic (The only difference from variant 3 is more boost, all hardware is the same)
