1998 S70 oil leak

What is a flametrap and where can it be found?

I have an oil leak on the right side (drivers side). Will leave spots and it is obvious underneath that it is on the right side of engine. My thinking is that it is a seal (is it the rear on the right? I'm used to saabs and not the volvo just yet). BUT because it is a turbo.... any turbo part there that could leak oil?

Anyway thanks for any advice as I'm going to venture into a different swedish car - coming from non-turbo saabs to a turbo volvo.

Thanks for any advice on what to look for ... and what to do for preventative maintenance ...oh it has 107k miles.

Brian

Flametrap is equivalent to PCV valve, but there's none on turbo cars. There is something called a PCT valve on turbo cars that should be cleaned out periodically (do a search on this board for PCT).

Most common oil leak on these cars is the oil return line from the turbo. The seals at either end of this pipe need to be replaced. Fairly simple DIY. See volvospeed.com or ipdusa.com for instructions.

Not a difficult job but a bitch to get your hands in the small area...a long arm's reach to get to the seals, then you have to turn the nuts to release the 0 rings. Get some instructions from IPD or volvospeed before you attempt the repair on how to "get in there."
