ball joint replacement 850

I am replacing the front BJs on my '94 850...they are the one which can be replaced without replacing the entire control arm. Is there a trick to getting the nut/bolt securing the ball joint to the wheel hub? I was able to loosen the nut, but it seems not possible to completely loosen the nut and remove the BJ..the brake caliper mount seems to be inthe way.

thanks

I replaced the ball joint 2 weeks ago. I remove the tire to get more access, I didn't remove the caliper assembly(because I didn't have to). don't lose the bolts that secure the ball joint to the control arm, you have to do it after remove the bolt that secure the ball joint to the stering nuckle. Once you lose the bolt try to move the control arm up and down while you unscrew. If this still not working then try using a large flat head screwdriver between the union that sucure the ball joint in the steering nuckle. Once you remove the ball joint fron the nuckle you can take off the bolts that secure the ball joint from the control arm.

thanks - but I am having trouble removing the bolt which holds the BJ to the steering knuckle...very little clearance, and the bolt moves a bit but is very difficult to loosen, even after dousing with kroil, wd40, etc...did you just use a box wrench? I can't seem to fit anything else on it..no socket/driver or breaker bar will fit.

I used a box wrench and a socket with a extension. There are a bolt and a nut that secure the ball joint. Hold the nut with the box wrench, then using a breaker bar, a extension and a socket turn the bolt. Get someone to help you to hold the nut while you turn the bolt.

Unless the bolt is in there backwards and even then I am not sure that it won't come out. The only trick I have had to use is to pull down on the control arm a little bit so that bolt would slide free.
