failure to start 850

I have a 1994 Volvo turbo sedan with keyless entry.Ocasionally, when opening the driver's door (whether the door has been locked or not),the emergency flasher starts flashing, all the dash icons illuminate, and the engine won't turn over. All I do is disconnect the battery's negative terminal, reconnect it,then all the bad symptoms disappear and the engine starts.Prior to buying this car an aftermaket alarm system was installed. What gives?? Is there an anti-theft mechanism in this car?
Thank you

This happens to mine sometimes. You just can't be in too much of a hurry getting into the car. If you try to open the door while it's being automatically unlocked it will confuse the alarm system logic and it will think someone's trying to steal the car. You have to let the door buttons come up before pulling the handle.

Sounds like they didn't take all of the alarm goodies off the car.
Or:
850's have an alarm system and your horn doesn't work. Try double unlocking it, that usually turns the alarm off.
