I cracked my windshield S70 1999

Ok last night I did something really stupid, in a moment of rage I punched and crack my windshield from the inside. Please dont judge me, cause I already know i'm an idiot. :(
But I need help. Do I report it to the insurance or do I just pay for it? How much does a job like this cost? What options do I have? I have full coverage in terms of insurance. Its a 4 door sedan.
I would appreciate any help that you can provide, thanks in advance.

yours truly,
the idiot :(

    I cracked my windshield S70 1999

I just had a windshield replaced on a V70 in Jackson, Mississippi, by Safelite Auto Glass for $388. My mechanic took it to the Safelite place, and they kept it overnight to make sure that the adhesives set up. I asked at the Volvo dealer about the cost of genuine Volvo glass, and the winshield was almost $500 (just the part!!). By the way, don't let just any bubba at a glass company install European windshields, especially on Volvo or BMW. Make sure they use the right adhesives and have experience with European cars.

I was quoted by the Volvo dealer ~$800 for a replacement windshield.

Make sure your insurance covers the entire amount--meaning not have to pay the deductible first and they pay the remainder. My old insurance company (Hartford) only covered the amount after the deductible which was $500 so they would pay only $300. So I switched insurance companies a few months later. They didn't seem to care if it was existing.

Also, I've noticed my windshield on my car (98 S70 GLT) has special "speckled" tinting along the edges of it (which help with low sun). Not sure if other windshiled's would have this or if this is an volvo windshield specific item.

Ok so my Geico policy has full glass coverage, thank God!
But i'm curious. Geico gave an option to have a company by the name of "Glass, Lights and something something" come to my job and do the job there and then. Is this a company that will do a good job? I asked Geico if they will use original Volvo glass and she said no. She did say that its basically the same glass and with every feature that the original glass came with... just that it's not straight from Volvo. Should I accept this? Does it matter where the glass is from? She did say though that they could get original glass from Volvo but it would take a time to place the order and to receive. Seeing that I can't be driving around in a cracked windshield I accepted with whichever glass they will give me. What do you guys think?
    Thanks again.

I had my 850 glass replaced. The "Volvo" label costs 200-300, and the insurance company wouldn't buy it. The standard glass is just fine. Most glass companies will come to the car and replace it in the parking lot or driveway. If you don't like the replacing company, tell Geico you want to use someone else. They will accept any glass company.

I just had Windshield on '98 S70 done yesterday. First choice for my insurance company was Safelite, but their reputation is not good in my town. I had had this done several years ago with my 850, at another place that is very reputable, so I wanted them to do this glass too. Unfortunately my insurance company charged me my $100 deductible. Without it, it would have cost nearly $300. Glass is PNG and not Pelkington, but that doesn't seem to matter...reputation of PNG is also good. Just don't let them replace your glass with Mexican, no name brand...also, ask around for reputable replacers and get your Ins. company to go with them if you can....good luck! BTW, my glass looks perfect...they did an excellent job!

    Wow! You OK? S70 1999

You punched the windshield and broke it??? Time to take anger management classes!

If your insurance coverage has glass, then by all means, call them. You don't have to explain how it broke. If you replace it yourself, figure about $550 or more, and that is for cheapie glass. Getting the "Volvo" in the bottom corner will cost a lot more.

Thanks for your concernt Klaus. To be honest I just merely "tapped it" with my fist.. it didnt even hurt, but then again i'm a big strong guy.
Anyways, I called dirty Geico, my insurance, and my policy does have a full glass coverage, so I guess that means I dont have to pay for anything. :)
Thanks again Klaus, you've been very helpful.
