ABS Brake Code 1994

Hello,

This 1994 850 wagon is getting better and better by the day.
However, I would appreciate some help in getting the check
engine light to turn off.

I pulled a code of 4-2-2 from the ABS diagnostic circuit
(rear return valve circuit, open/short). I cleared the code, etc.
once I clear it and get 1-1-1, if I start the car it immeadiately
sets the code again.

I have checked the wiring connectors to the rear wheels, there
does not seem to be any obvious problem.

Is this problem going to be ABS modulator under the hood, or
should I start looking somewhere else?

Any help would be greatly appreciated,
Thanks!

Did you say your check engine light is on or the abs light is on? If there is a fault in the circuit, wire broken or disconnected that could cause it, but it could be a faulty pump unit, this would be very expensive, maybe you could find one in a wrecking yard? Im not clear on which light is on in your dash though.

It's the check engine light - socket A3 stores the ABS codes
on this particular model. I disconnected and reconnected
the wiring harness to the ABS control unit under the hood.
Cleared the codes and started it up again. The check engine
light went out - so far so good. There must be a poor
connection somewhere - man, there are a lot of wires
going into that control unit! - definitely not like my 240.

Agree with the wire count. When you are up to it, clean every connector you can find in the engine compartment. At least the 850 no longer has the fuel pump fuse on top of the fender - uncovered.
