Do I have an AWD Lemon ?? V70-XC70 1998

Please give me your opinion ! The front-to-rear driveshaft had to be replaced recently at around 100,000 miles . Give me a break; I,ve never heard of anyone replaceing a driveshaft. Now,within a few weeks, of the driveshaft going , the rear end started thumping when I would start off, as if something large fell over in the back.Today my wife called me to say it had a highpitch grinding also. Is it the car, something the Dealership did( or didn't do) when they replaced the shaft, or am I just a real lucky guy ?I was hoping to get 200,000 out of this car, I really like it , but now I'm thinking it may be time to bail. Thanks for your responses .

Sounds to me like the angle gear is going. That is what mine sounded like when it went.

Did they misdiagnose this and replace the driveshaft (I believe they call it a propeller shaft) instead of replacing the angle gear (aka, bevel gear).

Angle gear failures are VERY commons, and often related to unequal tire circumference. All tires must be exactly the same, and rotated often.

Good luck. I hope it's not angle gear, since mine cost $1,700 to replace.

Wow! Sounds like the shop forgot to tighten the U joints back there. Hurry back to the shop before the drive shaft lands on the ground.
