Surprising oil leak on T5 850

I had an oil leak when I bought the car second hand and thought as most people did that it was the turbo oil return line. Over the weekend I got underneath and cleaned all the gunk off and found that it was actually a hole in the sump! It was in the offside rear corner and had been chafed through by a small plastic pipe (No idea what it is) that runs fro the rear of the car to the front nearside under the wing into a canister. It appears that the pipe should be clipped to the subframe around the sump but it had unclipped itself and was rubbing on the sump corner. Surprisingly the pipe is good with no marks on it at all. I managed to glue up the hole with some epoxy metal and am hoping this holds it. I have never heard of this before so thought I would put it on the forum as it may be of some use to other Vovlo owners.

How could a plastic pipe chafe away a metal sump?
Perhaps the sump was grounded at some point which caused the hole and knocked the pipe off?

No Ameh, there is no way the sump could have been grounded as the position the hole was in was behind the subframe! It was definitely the pipe which chaffed through as the wear mark is a perfect fit with the pipe. I was as surprised as you if not more mate I can tell you. The pipe is one of the rigid plastic types but even so there was not a mark on it! it must have been rubbing for some time as the recess in the sump must have been around a quarter inch deep. I tell no lie I have never seen this before in my 25 years in the motor trade.

Been seeing aluminum parts getting chafed by plastic and rubber parts for years and 95% of the time the aluminum part fails first. Surprizing, but it happens.
