Volvo 850-R radio 850 1997

I think it is the sc-815, the radio with the cd player and cassette player? Mine had a button that quit working, but the rest worked fine, at least until I disconnected the battery for maintenance. The button that didn't work happened to be the button that had one of the code numbers. So now I have a unit that will not function at all. I tried to reset it, but now the display shows "off" and I can no longer do anything.

How much does it cost to fix it? Or replace it?

Thank you!

$17,000,000 dollars, or I can point you to someone that will do it for $35?

You crack me up!! :-) I like your sense of humor...

It is the SC-815.

I would appreciate your help on this! Thanks again for the name of the mechanic for the doors. It just so happened that today the passenger side broke as well, but it only allows the door to open halfway.

When it rains, it pours.

Let me know.. If I don't reply soon, it will be because I will be out of town for 2 weeks.

For what it's worth, my perfect condition SC-710 just sold for 14.99 on eBay. Whoopee.
Changing out units on 850's is a cinch. I installed a Sony unit that was very affordable, and looks great and sounds far, far better than the stock, even with the same speakers. And it seems to pick up a lot more radio stations.

Rick

I have an 815 I took out of my 96 850T because I wanted XM radio. Mine is in perfect working condition, has a tape not CD. I was going to put it on eBay but if you want it for $120.00 it's yours. Will take a picture an email if you wish.

The guy I bought my wife's 850 Turbo had the stereo replaced right before I bought it. He mentioned it was nearly $400 from the dealer. Now would be your chance to put in an aftermarket (More power, style, and features)stereo in the car, a lot cheaper. Heck I bought a good name-brand stereo for like $129 and they installed it for free @ GoodGuys. Only problem is it may be double DIN sized space. A-

There is a fairly steady flow of 815's and the newer 816's on ebay. They seem to go in teh $175-200 range for perfect, and an occasional one with flaws like non-working lights for maybe $100. 816's plug in to the '97 fine, you just need to watch for a black face one, as majority of 816's are grey face. I have no direct knowledge of repair cost, but I would expect it to be at least as much as the ebay route. I have also heard of people taking their old radios to Volvo dealer shop or Volvo spealty independant and trading it for a refurbished unit for something in teh $200 range.

PS: If you end up replacing it, I'd make you an offer on tehold one. I have a non-working one and could probably salvage parts to make one good one from teh two. Best of luck,

Thanks, I'll keep you in mind. I kinda prefer keeping the stock radio in the car just because it looks better and I don't want someone jerry rigging my car just to make another unit fit. I've done that in the past and don't care to do it again. Besides I think the stock sound is fine. I don't need a $2000 stereo system.
