Squeeky V70 wagon backseat... V70-XC70

...hi gang. We recently got us a 1998 V70 with 108K.
It is squeeky......they come from the back seats, when you hit bumps, potholes, etc....at first if somebody was in the back-no squeeks, but now the sqeeks come and squeek with no passengers- hhmmmm???
It runs and drive splendid, so I figure it has got to be an interior thingy-doo and in no way would I go see the dealer aboout it....

Anyone have any idea of the source(s) of said squeeks?!?

Any suggestions as to where to lubricate back there???

Thanks- Mike!

    Sully,

Unhitch the right side of the rear seat (passanger side of car), and apply a liberal amount of silicone grease to the hitch post, and the mechanism on the seatback. My 98 did the same thing until I started using silicone grease on it. Now, no more squeaky seat.

Do you mean to grease the U-shaped piece of metal that the top of the seatback latched onto? I tried to track down a similar squeak in my 98 V70 XC. It squeaked when I hit small bumps with the left wheels. I used to fold the left-side seat down and then put it back. This used to buy me a little time. Now the squeak comes back right away.

Not having grease on hand, I wrapped the U-shaped metal thingy with silicon tape (like plumbers use). That bought a week or so.

Can I use White Lithium grease (I may have some squirred away in the basement)?

Actually you can use Vasaline Petrol Jelly. I did about a year ago and now squeek. Just "lube" up that three sided metal bracket you noted in your last comment and put the seat back in place. I also put some in to the locking mechanism on the seat that locks into that bracket. So far no squeak.
