squeaking noise in dash is driving me insane!! V70-XC70

Hey All,

My 99 V70 seems to have a colony of crickets living in my dash by the speedometer. Especially over rough rounds, but even the tiniest bump sets them off, I hear a squeaking noise from the left side of the console. Does anyone have any idea what might be loose and how to get to it?

Thanks for your help,

Mike

The clips attavhing the dash to the firewall break. Some Indys will repare it for about $6/700 by "welding" or clamping on revised clips. Usually replace entire dash at about a $1,600 cost. I hope you are lucky and the bolts are only loose. Remove the cowling beneath the wipers to access.

There are tiny bolts on the firewall side under the wiper arms that you can tighten to stop the squeak. I did it on mine and it took out the squeak.

NOTE: Be very careful as not to over tighten the bolts as to snap them off on the other side. I only tightened mine about 1/2 to 3/4 turn and I did it on a hot day so that the car had a chance to warm up, allowing the dash to become more flexible and allow me to tighten it a bit more. When the car cools down overnight, the dash will contract back slightly tightening up a bit.
