Aftermarket keyless entry remote installation 850 1996

Hi all,

I have a strange problem. I am fitting an aftermarket keyless entry system to my 1996 850. The central locking system itself is working fine, and I presumed that the installation would be an easy task. It was, except that I can't get the doors to lock! Unlocking works fine.

This is what I presumed:

The signal for unlocking doors is grounding pin 85A on relay - OK
The signal for locking doors is grounding pin 86 on relay - Doesn't work!

I have tried tapping into the lead to the relay and grounding it manually. Nothing happens.

The car has standard central locking, no deadlock.

Have I missed something?

Please drop a note if you have a clue to what's wrong.

Regards, Snorri H.

    Hi,

Ok, I don't have any advice but I'm about to embark on the very same thing - please keep us posted about installation, correct pins etc. I'm really eager to see how you get yours to work.

    Good Luck,
    Josh

Nice to know I'm not alone.

      Short description:

Car: Volvo 850 1996 wagon, central locking (no deadlocks, not two-stage).
Aftermarket remote keyless entry system: Crimestopper RKE 865.
Tools: You must have all the neccesary connectors, wires, crimper etc. Don't try this without good wiring diagrams unless you really know what you're doing.

      Installation:

All of the wiring is under the drivers side dash. Remove panel above pedals (three torx screws).

For the power and ground connections I used the accessory connector (yellow 8-pin) which was in place. I got the right size of blades at a parts store and could fit them with a little bending and adjustment.

For unlocking I wired a tap into the Gray/Red unlock wire going into the blue connector which plugs into the large white connector. This tap I connected to the unlock relay output, and grounded the "normally open" wire. "Normally closed" is not connected.

For locking I cut the yellow wire (M- in the diagram, drivers side motor, normally grounded, hot when locking) and connected the door side to the receiver lock relay output, the other side I connected to the relay "normally closed" input. The "normally open" wire I wired to 12V.

I also added a relay for turn signal flashing, you could do this with diodes but they were sold out.

You really need a wiring diagram and vested interest to read this, good luck.

      Snorri H.
