850 power seat back 850

Hi Guys!

I'm a student with a 94 850GLT 150k all is well except the back of my power seat stopped working. I don't have the 200 bucks the mechanic wants to fix it. So is there a way I can manualy fix the back of the seat so it is in upright position. I'm tired of driving around with a "gangter lean seat" There has to be some way to fix it. I know there is a way to close a power sunroof if it is broke so the must be a way to fix a power seat manually. Now I really miss my 91' 740 everything was manual including the crank sunroof! NOthing to Break!

This seat back problem is very common. With some patience, you can fix it yourself. If you can hear the motor trying to adjust the seat, then the problem is the cable slipping in the gear. There is a big writeup on fixing this on Bay 13,
http://www.volvospeed.com/Repair/seatcable1.htm However, the folks here have developed several shortcuts.
1. Cut the hog rings with a good pair of diagonal cutters and use plastic cable ties (zip ties) to replace them when finished.
2. Avoid replacement of the cable by one of two methods.
TEMPORARY Push the end of the cable into the gear hard, adjust the seat back and leave it there.
PERMANENT Gently heat the end of the cable until the metel ferrule slips off, cut 1/4 inch off the outer sheath to make the center stick out more, reheat the ferrule and slip it back on. Then follow Bay 13 to get it going again.
