Good Deal? 850 1993

I just won an auction on Ebay for a clean 1993 850 GLT with 141,000 miles for $1500.00
The pictures of the car look really nice and I am seriously thinking about closing the deal.
I guess my question is, does $1500.00 sound reasonable for this car with the mileage? I used to have an '86 740 GLE, and that ran forever, do the 850s run as reliably and last as long as the 740s? Any notorious problems with 850s of this particular year(I noticed that this is the 1st year of the 850, any bugs?)?
Any particular problem sots that I should look for when I go to see the car?

Any feedback would be great...

    Fred,
As others have mentioned, it sounds as if you now own a '93 850... Some searching on the Board will come up with good results, but the big items to look for would be: timing belts are narrower on a '93 which warrant 50k mile changes to avoid catastrophic engine consequences. Also, the transmissions seem to have a shorter life expectancy; mine was replaced about 30k miles prior to the purchase of mine. As mentioned in other posts the AC is a problem spot to check out. Good luck with the purchase...

You just bought an 850 for $1500 bucks plus taxes and airfare. Go get it! You own it! It is yours! Don't ask permission from us, you didn't ask our advice before you started to bid.

    PS Have fun!!! :)

You can search this BB for tons of info on the 850, but I'm wondering what "seriously thinking about closing the deal" means. You won the auction, right? Aren't you now obligated -- within the ethos of eBay -- to pay up?

I have a 1993 850 GLT (manual transmission) with 100,000 miles since new. I love this car. It is the first model year so there are some bugs, as others will tell you, but I have had no problems whatsoever (kow). Make sure you get it checked out and get all service records if possible. When was the timing belt last changed? AC is a big problem, but I live in Northern California so never use it. Automatic transmissions seem to have more problem than manual transmissions. I think 1500.00 is pretty cheap actually, so I might tend to be a bit wary.

    Good luck...

Too bad some feel a need to be insulting in their replies. I guess they feel better about themselves. I just picked up the same for $1200.00 CDN. A dealer friend says they retail for about $5,000.00 CDN and have seen them going for more privately. Hopefully shipping costs won't be too much.

        I am sorry if I was "insulting"--just don't know how I was....
