turn signal problem 850

My right front turn signal was blinking rapidly, so I replaced the bulb...but it continues to blink fast and the light does not flash. I switched bulds from left to right, still it did not work properly...when I switched the bulbs back, neither worked...I bought two new bulbs, and now both left and right sides blink rapidly and the bulds do not flash...I am wondering if I go the wrong bulbs...I am using standard 1157A amber bulbs...is there some specific volvo bulb I should use?

    Usually, if the front turn signal flashes rapidly, then the rear turn signal is out. I would replace all four bulbs, all the way around, and clean the bulb contacts.

    What does it do when you leave both bulns out? If it does nothing, then I would suspect either the incorrect bulbs, or a flasher unit gone south.
