There is a pump or small motor located near the car's battery. Someone, please enlighten me on what this is. Over the last two days, this pump/motor will not shut off even after turning the car off. I have to pop the hood and disconnect the negative cable to the battery - so the pump/motor looses power to stop.

The pump goes on as soon as you turn the ingnition on and makes a constant audible noice - - - never did this before.

A little advice please, before I head for the dealer and plop Ca$h for diagnosis and correction.

Call your dealer and tell them the problem. There was a recall for the pump to replace and move it. The position of the pump allows water to get into the mechanism and cause failure. This is the pump for the vacuum assist for the BRAKES. If this fails it is possible to lose the assistance of the vacuum on the brakes after cold startup.

Are you the original owner of the car? You should have received a recall notice to have this checked and fixed.

Good news is that it should be a FREE fix. Hurray, I think!

Thats the air pump.

You need a new relay for it.
