Coolant boiling over, but temp guage reads normal 850 1994

My engine temp guage reads normal, but every drive of 30 minutes or longer results in a boil over. The boil over empties the reservoir and the low coolant light comes on. I refill with water or coolant depending on the mixture, trying to maintain a 50/50 mix. I was wondering if the coolant reservoir cap needs to be replaced, because I have seen the coolant boil right from the cap, Should I not use a 50/50 mix, or if the problem is more serious, like the water pump?

Any advice on what to do.
My email address is: aviator_6@hotmail.com

Thanks for the help.

Yes, a loose reservoir cap can cause boil even when the temp is ok.

50/50 is fine. Not really needed but it's OK. What color is the cap? Are the hoses to the plastic container open and not plugged?

      Hi,
The color of the cap is kind of an aqua blue.
The hoses appear to be clear.
What dose the color of the cap tell me?

      Thanks

Early caps were grey and failed frequently. They were replaced with the blue/green caps in the later years. Take the cap off and let the motor idle, if you see it burping out a lot of air its probably a bad head gasket.
