Scrapping noise on an AWD??? V70-XC70

OK my 98 AWD while cruising at highway speed sounds "slightly" like a disc rotor rubbing on the metal shield but its not. It has been doing it consistently now for a few months. Could this be the start of the famous bevel gear issue?? Any help appreciated.

It could be a loose axle nut, on the wheel making the sound

a loose axle nut cause it? I have no brake shudder or clanking!
