Aftermarket AC filter? 850 1993

I read on another forum a reference to 850s lacking an air filter for the A/C system and that it is possible to get one installed by a mechanic, as a way to prevent AC motor failure. Does anyone know about this and whether an aftermarket filter exists one could install at home?

    If you take the vent filter adapter to an auto parts store you may be able to find a much cheaper filter that will fit. I'v been able to make a Fram or STP #3029(?) fit pretty well after cutting out a couple of inches from the middle. They cost about 1/3 of the listed filter. You can install the adapter by just lifting up the side of the vent cover on the passenger side. No need to remove the whole thing.

    Yes, there is and you dont need a mechanic! FCP Groton sells them for a very reasonable price, get a filter and an Engine air filter while you are at it. 1/2 the price of dealer.
    Just need to take the plastic cover thats under the windshield off, put in the filter housing, filter and put cover back on. Less than one hour.
