MIXING OIL & WATER BUT COOLANT COLLECTOR IS PURE ANTIFREEZE. 850 1996

Hi guys (and gals). First post here. By looking at my dipstick, my motor is mixing. At first I thought it was my headgasket but on looking at the forums and talking to a volvo specialist, luckily that might not be the case. Before I continue, I was bewildered at the oil pooling on top of the motor, but now I know its the oil filler cap gasket. Back to the subject
-My coolant in the bottle is clear.
-Am NOT losing coolant.
-Its NOT overheating.
-No lose of power.
-Not smoking from the muffler.
All this leads me too think, its the condensation issues I have read about. We have had one of the coldest winters in Texas. When my wife gets home, I will do an engine flush, and replace the oil cap gasket, but I would definately appreciate your input.
One more thing. Whats this flametrap that I hear accumulated sludge. I saw directions on swedespeed but it was for non-turbo models and mines the 850 GLT. Thanks for your response in advance.

MIXING OIL & WATER BUT COOLANT COLLECTOR IS PURE ANTIFREEZE. 850 1996

I just stumpled accross your e-mail. If what you mean by an engine flush by puttting it into the oil system etc I strongly recommend not I repeat not to do a engine flush. I have seen on coutless times people doing so called internal flushes and they have ruined good engines. Why.. deposits that build up do break lose after the flush is completed and it gets caught in the oil filter and oil pumping mechnisms. I just saw it again at my indi mechs shop on a perfectly good Nissan Pathfinder motor. Any moisture will burn off.

No flame trap, but PCT 850 1996

Turbos do not have flame traps (the other name for PCV). But they do have a PCT which can get clogged, I just found out. Do a search on PCT and read the threads.
When you change the oil - use synthetic! It will work better in the heat of Texas without breaking down and your engine will love it.
Too much manifold pressure leads to blown seals. Clean the PCT.

        From Doc67:

"It is not as bad as it looks.
Take the top of the air cleaner off and disconnect from the hose.
Disconnect the two hoses at the top of the cold air pipe.
Disconnect the two hoses and electrical connector from the PTC.
Disconnect the hose clamp from the turbo and pull the whole cold air pipe
        out.

Don't even think about trying to get the PTC out of the cold air pipe
without removing the cold air pipe. It is still difficult to get out even
when the cold air pipe is out of the car.

Also, my cold air pipe had disintegrated at the turbo connection, causing
the intake to suck lots of air. You may want to check it out at the same
time. The dealer told me today that it is a common failure."

Of course, all dealers say that. If it is so common, why doesn't Volvo do something about it? Buggers!

Klaus, what does PCT stand for. Positive crankcase Turbo?

I know PCV is positive crankcase ventilation.

        PTC Nipple.
        Positive Tempature Coeficient Nipple.

It heats the air returning from the PCV system as it enters the intake system to prevent any moisture from condensing in the intake system.

Also, when you order the cold air intake pipe from the filter to the turbo, the ptc nipple comes with it. I paid $130 CDN for the assembly in Toronto Canada.
