battery cable $1500.00 ??!!! 850 1995

Guys,

I have a 85 turbo 850 sedan that has a crusty positive cable on the battery. I called the dealer and was told the cable was part of the entire main engine harness and would cost $1504.00!! Any one know of another supplier that has a simpler way to "splice" in just the battery cable ?

Juan

I pulled the battery cable off yesterday. My goodnes there are alot of wires. My parts car doesn't have a front end on it and it took me an hour of wrestling to get the part. With that said I didn't even get the entire harness off. I have the red battery wire that goes from the positive to the starter and the three or four other wires. So you could splice this in, if you can get to the area. You will hve to remove all the plastic around the wires and then replace them.

In other words it will be a bitch to replace. let me know if you want it. I had fun taking it off.

sounds like my dealer, they like to pull out everything and start with all new parts. try cleaning it first with wire brush and baking soda. if that does not work go to auto parts store for a new terminal connector - maybe 20 bucks - put on and use terminal grease. if it runs what do you care that it looks "crusty"

As I recall, there was a service bulletin and the battery cables were made available as seperate parts. So the whole harness should be unneccessary.

    Gawd!
Just splice, dice, and don't think twice.
You can get terminal extenders for about 15 bucks.
Not sure if you have Canadian Tire in your area, but any automotive supply store can fix you up for under $20.00 provided that the corrosion is within 6" of the post connector!

We just replace the terminal connector; it's just "careful" splicing because of the numerous other wires there...

    Hope this helps,
    Chris

Get a repair end in any parts store, cut off old end, clean, clean, clean with coca cola or baking soda, and put new end on tight with some battery terminal grease right on your clean cable, from the same parts store..

All 850 turbos were the same. You going to charge him 10 bucks for the part and 1200 for shipping????? :)

The dealer didn't lie about the cost. Try some US auto electrical shops and see if they could splice on a new battery end. Should be less than a new harness!
