catalytic converter removal

I have a 98 volvo s 70 non turbo and I want to remove my catalytic converter for off road use, scca raceing, etc. Is there a 0 2 sensor before and after the converter or just before. I was told there is just one before. If I remove the converter will the engine run correctly as some obdII monitor the exhaust before and after the converter and the engine will not run correctly with out the converter. The converter is bad, that is also why I want to remove it.

Thanks
Dennis 850

Treat this as a joke, but I'd bet that if you unplugged the O2 sensors, your brick will run about as bad as it would without a cat!!!

You may put your car in limp home mode or cause some other grief.

After reading this board and volvospeed for about 3 years, the white, 5 cylinder, NA Volvo motor is highly tuned already, and you cannot do ANYTHING to it that is worth the $$$ you spend to improve power.

I have not seen anyone claim otherwise, except in ads.

If you plan to race, going to driving school may be your best investment, and perhaps going on a diet ;)

I replaced the whole exhaust from converter all the way to the tail pipe by dealer - $1200.

The convertors cost 1,100.00 dollars at the dealer but you can get aftermarket for about 300.00 and save the universe in the process!
