Oh, no Nivomat 850 1996

I brought my 1996 850 R wagon to my mechanic to have the rear shocks checked. He says they're Nivomats. Oh, no! Not my wagon!
Is there a way of converting to regular shocks? Thanks.

I agree with KlausC that there is no reason to convert. I just replaced the front struts because of a leak and was going to replace the rear shocks as I have 130,000 on my 98 and was trying to stay ahead of the curve. Everyone tells me to forget it until they go out. They are expensive to replace and the springs they reccomend being replaced at the same time, so enjoy the ride.

You could replace them, but you need to replace the springs too. Why? A pair of Nivomats will keep the car level when you add a bunch of junk in the back, plus the replacement costs from FCP is half the dealer cost.
