Check Engine Light Reset S40-V40 2000

I have noticed that if I get a check engine during startup, it goes away later that day. If I get one driving it lasts longer. Will it go out after a number of starts?
Thanks,
Craig

Sure it will go out after a number of restarts. Here is the rub though, it has to see something like 20 good drive cycles in a row without reoccurence of the fault that set the code and then it clears the light and the code goes pending and then in something like another 20 or 40 cycles it will clear the code entirely. This is a huge amount of time and if the fault code was in fact a fluke well then it will go ahead and clear itself with time, but that is a real long shot. These parameters are all just basic OBD II stuff, all of the manufacturers have to use them as there guidelines when they set up the diagnostics and engine control systems on their car. Keep in mind they are only GUIDELINES and they definitely vary from manufacturer to manufacturer.

Thanks for your reply. I had the code read today. It was engine temp low. This is the second time I have had this problem. So with 73K miles I am on my 3rd thermostat. The thermostat was replaced and a new ECM software was installed. It seems to have raised the heated air temperature. Do you know what the new ECM is for?
      Thanks,
      Craig
