1999 v70 xc, would appreciate any comments. V70-XC70 1999

Please help fill me in on this potential purchase, Im not really looking for a money pit, but Im a volvo fan. This car drives well, interior is a little less than perfect(powerseat fwd. switch not working, a little "used" all in all. The price is $10500 and the car has 95000mi. It test drove well except for a clunk in the drive train between what I think is 2nd and 3rd. Dealer says "throttle control module" was just replaced, Im assuming he meant ETC/EPT module, does that sound right? Should the 1999 xc's be avoided all together or do we have some exceptions out there? Thanks for your advice. Jason

Avoid the '99-'00 at all costs. Lots of problems wit the ETS module, common failure and even though it has been replaced they tend to fail again and is a dealer only service because of computer download, to the tune of $1200.

Also avoid the AWD if possible, because of the common bevel gear failure, again expensive repair. FWD car with good snow tires would do.

Your best bet a '97 or '98 V70 FWD, since these still have the mechanical throttle with cable, compared to the electronic on the fly throttle of '99 and newer.

If you're looking for a newer car, then 2001 and newer are less problematic.

Even if you want AWD Volvo they want too much money for it. Remember that as soon as volvo came out with the second generation of XCs, the first generation XCs devalued. With 95K miles you can buy a 2001 for about 13 to 15K.
