What is it?

    VIDA All-in-One-Client

VIDA (Vehicle Information and Diagnostics for Aftersales) will replace iVADIS, VADIS, and WSDA in early 2005. VIDA will be available in two configurations, VIDA All-In-One-Client and VIDA on the Web. VIDA All-In-One-Client (AIOC) will replace VADIS and WSDA, providing access to service-manual information, vehicle diagnostics and software downloads.

Meaning...those shops that currently pay monthly for iVADIS and WSDA so that they can perform software upgrades and such will suddenly have to dig deep into their pockets if they want to be able to continue to do so. VADIS is a lump sum $6400.00 payment; WSDA is a monthly payment of about $180.00; It scares me to think of how much a year of VIDA is going to hurt.

The software should be free to the car it originally belong: any other costs can be added by VOLVO in the price of the NODE.

Have you looked at TechInfo: prices have just gone up?

Just realized that you were talking about reloads of existing software being free when you reset and reload because of a download problem. Yep, that is true. There is a benefit to that...the car is really getting the upgraded software, not the original software, so the car should actually be a little more in-tune with the driver now...

Incidentally, on your computer, you should have under programs, VADIS User Tools where there is an entire users manual, print it out. The only other advise I can offer is revisit the web site, purchase many of the training manuals such as Volvo Automotive Networks, Electrical Switches to Networks, VADIS, and others having to do with the new systems and waste a few weekends reading and studying. When you get to the point that you are screaming at the books saying things like, "what the f were you thinking; Volvo engineers need lobadomies; what a load of crap, that's a benefit?..." walk away, breathe, do yoga, whatever, and then hit the books again.

Take care...looks like we Volvo techs are back at Volvo 101 with the new cars,

        I love a 240!

If you're a Volvo dealer tech, do the VIDA coarse on VEN as it won't be that bad once people get use to it. It'll be different but probably alot better in the long run.

As for older cars, yep....I'd still take an older RWD anyday to newer stuff. Probably why mine's 20 yrs old, 255K miles and still goin'.

Software, free? from Volvo? Wake-up Dorothy!

There are some software upgrades that are available at a dealership under factory warranty if a person complains about "a", and this complaint conforms to the guidelines in "b", and said client has complained about it "c" times.

I sign onto volvotechinfo at least 3 times a week, and WSDA about the same number of times. Yes, the software prices have gone up by about $5.00 across the board.

Believe you me, VIDA will be far from free.

        Chris
