Oil leakage with Turbo V70-XC70

I have had my '98 V70 GLT for a couple years now. When I first bought it used I noticed alot of oil leaking from the engine. All mechanics told me this is normal seepage from the turbo unit out the intake hose. At first I could not sleep but now I have accepted it. Over the months it seems to be getting worse. Last time I had the car lifted the front sway bar, steering rack, and right control arm has a nice coating of semi-syn engine oil on it. Now I need to hear from actual owners if this is really normal. Thanks...

Sounds like the old turbo oil return line seal at the block. Anytime I see that amount of area covered with oil, i know it's leaking under pressure. That's the most common presurized leak in that area. 98% of the time, that's what it is. Have them wash the turbo hoses while they're in there, that should stop the original seepage for a while.

      Chris,

Thanks for the suggestion. I have had this gasket changed when I bought the car about 1.5 years ago. Next time I change the oil I will take a look around this return tube.

Not typical--seek a second opinion. Lots of possibilities but main culprits I've experienced are rear main seal and oil cooler lines. On my old 850 at about 94K, the rear main seal started out as a few drips and progressively got worse, lots of $$$ to replace a $20 gasket. On my V70, oil cooler lines leaked due to old O-rings where the lines connect to the oil cooler--easy fix and not much money. Good luck.

I would say it is not normal and would like to know who said it was normal.
